Metzeler Karoo Extreme MST – enduro & off-road tyre
Developed for demanding rally competition and varied off-road adventures, the Karoo Extreme MST prioritises traction and adaptability across changing terrain. Its estimated use split is 20% road and 80% off-road, reflecting a strongly off-road-focused design with limited road capability.
- Powerful off-road drive: Tall, widely spaced rear blocks bite into loose ground. The rear pattern uses three large blocks per tread section; their height, spacing and near-vertical faces act like claws to generate strong forward traction where the surface gives way.
- Front-end accuracy: The front block arrangement is configured for directional stability both upright and through turns. Multi-edged centre blocks provide numerous biting surfaces for braking and stability on firm or loose ground, while the shoulder blocks guide the motorcycle as lean angle increases.
- Resilient carcass: Multiple plies of high-modulus, low-shrinkage fibres balance clear feedback and braking stability with the flexibility needed to absorb forces from jumps and obstacles. The lightweight structure also contributes to agility and composure at higher speeds.
- Competition compound: Natural and synthetic rubber are blended for mechanical strength as well as resistance to wear and block tearing. A high carbon-black content helps the tread cope with the sustained heat and heavy loads typical of desert racing.
This tyre is especially suited to heavy, powerful off-road and rally motorcycles designed for high speeds and long stages. Depending on the selected size and vehicle specification, examples include the KTM 450 Rally Replica, Honda CRF450 Rally and similar competition machines used in demanding rally events.
MST means “Multi Service Tyre”, identifying a tyre intended to work across different surfaces and provide a balance of road and off-road capability.
