Dunlop Mutant – a versatile road tyre for changing conditions

Some motorcycle tyres are easy to classify. The Dunlop Mutant is not one of them. It sits somewhere between a road tyre, a sport-touring tyre and a supermoto-inspired all-weather option, which is exactly why it suits riders who use one bike for very different kinds of journeys.

Built for mixed road conditions

The Mutant is aimed primarily at tarmac use, but its aggressive tread pattern gives it a more versatile character than a conventional sport-touring tyre. It is well suited to riders who regularly encounter broken surfaces, back roads, cool weather and wet conditions rather than only smooth summer asphalt.

The M+S marking also reflects that broader-use approach. It does not turn the tyre into a true off-road option, but it does underline the fact that Dunlop designed it for a wider range of road conditions than a pure sport tyre.

A lively feel without becoming nervous

One of the Mutant’s strengths is steering response. It is intended to feel quick to turn while still remaining stable once the bike is leaned over. That makes it especially interesting on naked bikes, supermotos, crossover machines and lighter adventure-style motorcycles.

For riders who spend most of their time on ordinary roads but still want a tyre that feels playful on twisty sections, the balance is appealing. The Mutant is less about maximum track-style grip and more about confidence across many different road surfaces.

Where it makes the most sense

This is a tyre for riders whose journeys are rarely identical. Commuting during the week, wet roads in the morning, a fast country-road ride at the weekend and the occasional rougher route all fit its character well.

It is not the obvious choice for dedicated long-distance touring or serious off-road riding. Its real strength is versatility: one tyre with a distinctly sporty road feel that is not limited to perfect conditions.
